Caliente Roja

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

I bartend at a Mexican Food Restaurant/Lounge, and the owner asked me to put together a mix of music for a special event that was occuring in the bar. I’m like yeah, sure… I can put something together. and this mix is what happened. We played this mix in the lounge during “Taste of Morena Blvd” 5 times in a row while people sipped margaritas and snacked on a buffet of taco fingers and black bean soup. It went off. People loved it. This isn’t typically what I’m djing out currently, but I’ve always wanted to put all these songs together in a mix. Take a listen if ya’d like! leave a comment! Skutech Vs. Red Sonya - “back2back” dj mix vol. 1

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I’m calling it “Double Trouble” for now. Skutech and I threw this down in my studio, mainly as a gift for our newly engaged friends, Tim & Christen. I’ve always loved drum and bass, and as of recently I’ve been buying it up on vinyl like crazy! Sku’s always got the jams to make that ass shake, and I brought a newer sound of dnb to this mix. We played 3 records each during this set, taking turns. Sku sets it off nicely with some EZ Rollers, I’m sure you’ll recogize some tracks in this mix. Enjoy!

Double Edged Sword - DJ Red Sonya

Recent Review on Mixupload.com:

“Red Sonya is entering on mixupload.com providing a mix with a very funky vibe, knowing how to rip up cool jazzness, beats and basslines when taking off with the first tunes of her track selection - “Texas Toast” by Spettro, “Funked” by VinylAssassins,… The mix cleverly builds with irresistible grooves that nest theirself in your heads mainframe. More of a deep drifty house than tek sound but then, with “The Way You Hold Me” by David Duriez and Jay Tripwire’s “Swang Kong”, the mix breaks off with a pounding bottom groove into tunes from Jesse Rose, Dapayk & Padberg, pushing things forward on the techy edge. If music makes my day, then with mixes like this!”

“Finally”

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

I named this mix “finally” because it was honestly the first mix of mine that I actually gave out, a few years after i first started djing. A lot of my friends were bugging me for a mix for a while. I was djing with the Vinyl Elements Crew at the time, and we had CD Release Party, where all of us gave out mix CDs at the door. I made like 30 copies to pass out. I lost the master, and have been looking for this mix for years since. I gave up, until recently when my friend, Paul, mentioned this mix. Says he still listens to it. I begged him to make me a copy. I forgot all about this one. So here it is! This mix takes me back to when I played deep house. Thanks Paul for getting me back in touch with the old me. Enjoy the mix, yo.
